2,000 records of teachers set for P1 World Bank upgrade have discrepancies, says TSC

The Teachers Service Commission, (TSC) has revealed that the 2000 records submitted by teachers set for P1 World Bank upgrade have discrepancies

According to the Commission, details of about 2,000 teachers did not match existing TSC records, while some teachers’ qualifications differed from those in the official database. Additionally, several teachers reported that their information had not been captured during the data collection exercise.

TSC, further directed both Regional and County Directors to verify and update the records. They were also instructed to include teachers’ KCSE Index Numbers and the Year of Sitting for KCSE to ensure accuracy.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), in collaboration with the World Bank and other education stakeholders, unveiled plans to launch an Upgrade Programme for serving P1 teachers across the country.

The move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Junior School education operates at optimum staffing levels under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The planned upgrade initiative is expected to offer thousands of P1 teachers a pathway to acquire higher professional qualifications, improving their teaching competencies and aligning them with CBC demands.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that it will enhance the quality of instruction at the primary and junior school levels while providing teachers with much-needed career advancement opportunities.
