The Youth from Nyamira County have been advised to embrace in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enable them get employment in the ever competitive job market, especially, the fast rising digital economy.
Nyamira County Governor, Amos Nyaribo, said that many school leavers from the county have mobile phones but they do not know how to use them for their effective economic growth.
“They already have computers in their disposal but they do not know how to apply them to support their economic well-being,” he said.
The governor said that there were lots of employment opportunities across the world but blamed the youth who did not train in ICT to enable them secure employment through internet and work outside the country from their homes.
“The world has become a global village but it will be more suitable to live only those who have relevant knowledge and skills to apply in the demanding areas,” he said.
Nyaribo revealed that his government had established a youth empowerment centre equipped with enough computers for training the youth.
“The centre will start operating from next month and train youth who will be awarded with certificates after graduation,” he said.
He appealed to the parents to encourage their children to enroll in the centre in big numbers to seize the opportunity and equip themselves with skills.
He reminded them that the centre is not meant for form four leavers but asked even degree holders to visit and learn.
The governor cited countries like Italy, France and America that need employees to work for them online and encouraged university graduates not to look down upon opportunities.
The governor said that the centre will also accommodate for youth from other counties like Kisii, Bomet, Kericho, Homa Bay and Narok.
