Youth in Ndithini, Masinga Sub-county have called for the diversification of Governor Wavinya Cup tournament to incorporate games such as handball, volleyball and athletics in order to give more young people an opportunity to participate.
Speaking at Kiatineni Chief’s Camp during a Public Participation forum for the 2026/2027 Financial Year presided by Youth and Sports County Executive Committee Member Sharon Mutua, the youth thanked Governor Wavinya for the annual football tournament but asked for more disciplines to be included in the event.
“We are grateful to Governor Wavinya for sponsoring the annual Governor’s Cup which has helped to grow talents. We ask her to consider including other disciplines such as handball, volleyball and athletics,”said Charles Mwanza,a resident of Ndithini Ward who spoke on behalf of the youth.

He said some teams from the area won cash awards last year in addition to receiving play kits from the County government.
Youth and Sports CECM Sharon Mutua urged more youth to participate in this year’s tournament set to kick off soon.
She said participating teams win cash awards beginning from the ward level and culminating in the ultimate prize of Sh1 million for both boys and girls at the County level.
During the event, residents from Ndithini and Muthesya Ward presented their proposals to Ms Mutua and officials from the Department of Finance and Economic Planning.
