Young people in Kiambu Constituency are continuing to benefit from free digital skills training through the ongoing JITUME ICT Stage 1 programme at the Ndumberi JITUME Centre, an initiative aimed at preparing them for opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy.

The programme, spearheaded by Kiambu MP Machua Waithaka, is targeting recent Form Four graduates and other young people eager to acquire practical ICT skills that can enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential.

Residents have been encouraged to ensure their sons and daughters enrol in the free classes instead of remaining idle at home after completing their secondary education.

Through the training, participants gain basic computer literacy, internet navigation skills, and other essential digital competencies required in today’s job market.

Transforming lives through technology

The initiative has already made a significant impact on previous beneficiaries, many of whom have progressed to advanced ICT courses, secured internships, launched small online businesses, or found opportunities in freelance digital work.

Others have used their skills to access online educational resources, government services, and employment platforms, improving their prospects and confidence in the digital space.

Bridging the digital divide

The programme has earned praise from members of the community for helping bridge the digital divide while empowering young people with practical knowledge that can translate into sustainable livelihoods.

As enrolment continues at the Ndumberi ICT Hub, local leaders remain optimistic that more youth will benefit from the initiative, contributing to a generation equipped with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
