Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has called on parents and guardians to take an active role in guiding and disciplining their children as schools prepare for the upcoming half-term break scheduled for June 24–28, 2026.
Speaking during a public engagement in the county, Savula emphasized that the short break should not be viewed as a period of idleness but rather as an opportunity for parents to reinforce discipline, responsibility, and moral values among learners.
He cautioned that unsupervised learners during school holidays are often exposed to risky behaviours, including drug and substance abuse, peer pressure, and other negative influences that may derail their education journey.
“The responsibility of raising disciplined children does not lie with teachers alone. Parents must be present, involved, and intentional in shaping the behaviour of their children during school breaks,” he said.
Keep learners engaged
The deputy governor urged parents to ensure that children remain engaged in productive activities such as household chores, religious programmes, revision of school work, and community activities that promote positive growth.
He further called for stronger collaboration between parents, teachers, and local administrators to safeguard learners and strengthen discipline both at school and at home.
Commitment to youth development
Savula reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting education and youth development initiatives aimed at nurturing responsible and productive citizens.
