Infrastructure development in schools continues to be a central pillar in the pursuit of quality education, improved academic performance and the creation of conducive learning environments across the country.

Education stakeholders have consistently emphasised that the availability of adequate facilities directly influences learner concentration, teacher effectiveness and overall institutional performance.

This was strongly echoed during a major fundraising drive held in support of Kapsangar Mixed Secondary School in West Pokot County, where leaders from both national and county levels, education stakeholders and members of the local community gathered to mobilise resources aimed at strengthening the school’s infrastructure.

The event marked a significant step in ongoing efforts to improve learning conditions at the institution, which continues to experience increasing enrolment and growing demand for expanded facilities.

Foundation Stone Laid for Administration Block

A key highlight of the occasion was the laying of a foundation stone for the construction of a new administration block.

The project is expected to enhance the school’s administrative capacity, improve coordination of academic and co-curricular activities and strengthen service delivery to both learners and staff.

The development was widely described as a milestone in the school’s growth trajectory, signalling a structured effort towards improving institutional efficiency and expanding essential learning infrastructure.

Leaders Reaffirm Commitment to Education

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, was represented by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who joined West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin and other leaders at the event.

Governor Sang conveyed the government’s commitment to supporting education infrastructure development as a foundation for strengthening academic outcomes and ensuring equitable access to quality learning across counties.

He noted that investments in school facilities remain a long-term strategy for empowering learners and improving institutional performance in both rural and urban areas.

Addressing Infrastructure Gaps

Governor Kachapin underscored the importance of collaboration between county governments, national leadership and local communities in addressing infrastructural gaps affecting schools.

He observed that many institutions continue to face challenges related to overcrowding, limited facilities and inadequate administrative structures, which hinder effective delivery of education services.

The fundraising drive attracted leaders, education officials, parents, alumni and community members who collectively contributed towards the school’s development agenda.

More Than Buildings

Speakers during the event consistently emphasised that education remains one of the most powerful tools for social and economic transformation.

They noted that improving school infrastructure is not only about expanding physical structures but also about creating an enabling environment where learners can thrive academically and socially.

The administration block was described as a symbol of the school’s planned expansion and commitment to improving institutional management.

Benefits for Learners and Teachers

Once completed, the facility is expected to house key administrative offices and improve coordination between staff, learners and school leadership.

Education stakeholders observed that inadequate administrative facilities often contribute to inefficiencies in record keeping, communication and overall school management.

Teachers are expected to benefit from improved coordination of academic programmes and better administrative support, while learners stand to gain from enhanced organisational efficiency, improved discipline and stronger academic monitoring.

Need for Continued Investment

The fundraising event also highlighted broader infrastructure challenges facing schools in West Pokot County and other marginalised regions where growing student populations continue to strain existing facilities.

Stakeholders noted that many institutions still require additional classrooms, laboratories, sanitation facilities and staff offices to meet increasing demand.

They called for sustained investment and stronger partnerships between government agencies, development partners and local communities to ensure schools are adequately equipped to deliver quality education.

Looking to the Future

Community members expressed optimism that the ongoing developments at Kapsangar Mixed Secondary School would significantly improve the institution’s standing and academic performance in the coming years.

The active participation of parents and local leaders was viewed as a strong demonstration of community ownership in the school’s development.

As the ceremony concluded, leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting education as a national priority.

They emphasised that investments made in school infrastructure today would yield long-term benefits through human capital development, economic empowerment and social stability.

The administration block therefore stands not only as the beginning of a construction project but also as a symbol of renewed commitment to strengthening education infrastructure in the region.
