Four schools in West Pokot County have received smart boards and laptops in a fresh digital learning initiative that education officials say will sharpen classroom instruction ahead of the full rollout of the Competency Based Education (CBE) system.
The installation exercise, which began on Monday, July 13, 2026, covered Nasokol, Nateleng, Totum and Tampalal Comprehensive Schools, all situated in Kishaunet zone within West Pokot Sub-County. Each of the four institutions received a smart board alongside a laptop, devices supplied under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project.
Teachers and learners turned out in large numbers to witness the installation, with many expressing excitement mixed with anticipation as they interacted with the new gadgets for the first time.
Speaking at Nateleng Comprehensive School, Junior Secondary School teacher Sylvia Cheyech said the smart boards would transform how lessons are delivered in the institution. She noted that learners would now embrace technology-driven teaching methods, which she said would make lessons livelier and easier to follow.

The rollout followed weeks of preparation, during which at least three Junior Secondary School teachers from each of the four schools underwent rigorous training on how to operate the new equipment. Officials said the trained teachers would now be tasked with inducting their colleagues back at school, to ensure that every teacher becomes fully ICT compliant.

Peter Mwangi and Brian Wachisi, technicians from Tilil Technologies who have been installing the smart boards across the county, said the devices were of high quality and had arrived at an opportune time, coming just as schools align their teaching methods with the requirements of the CBE system.
Education stakeholders in the region have welcomed the initiative, terming it a timely investment that will help bridge the digital divide between rural and urban schools while equipping both teachers and learners with skills relevant to a technology-driven curriculum.
