4,600 Form Ones in West Pokot county are yet to report to school. The delay has majorly been caused by the insecurity being experienced in the region.
County Commissioner Apollo Okello has instructed chiefs to follow up on the whereabouts of the missing students.
“The county hasn’t achieved the 100% transition policy. We are at 74%. In the next two weeks, we have to ensure all students are in school,” he said.
He urged parents to take their children to school citing an improvement in security provided for schools and teachers.
He further assured residents of government intervention towards school fees challenges and encouraged them to take advantage of the free bursary advanced to them.
Apollo has been on the forefront in campaigning for the coexistence of the communities bordering the West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties to enable the smooth running of schools.
