Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, on Monday, May 25, 2026, launched the SHOFCO Machakos Community Resource Centre aimed at creating economic opportunities for residents.
The SHOFCO Machakos Community Resource Centre is a product of a partnership between the County Government of Machakos and SHOFCO, a community-based organisation.
The centre features a fully equipped community library offering free access to learning materials, a digital centre, and a women empowerment centre that will train women in tailoring and other skills.
Governor Wavinya thanked SHOFCO CEO Dr Kennedy Odede for the partnership.
Youth loans
The initiative also includes the introduction of a community bus and the rollout of Sh15 million in youth loans that will benefit 2,000 young people to support their businesses and economic empowerment.
“This initiative underscores the County Government’s commitment to education, empowerment, and sustainable community development,” Governor Wavinya said during the launch.
Renovated interns’ quarters
Earlier in the day, Governor Wavinya commissioned newly renovated medical interns’ quarters at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, which will host 20 medical interns and two doctors on call.

The governor also conducted an inspection tour of the county’s main referral hospital to assess ongoing infrastructure upgrades and the installation of modern medical equipment.

The tour focused on projects aimed at enhancing healthcare service delivery, patient safety, and staff welfare at the Level 5 facility.
