Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) members in Machakos county are now assured of reliable medical attention after their union signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a medical insurance company.

Speaking outside Machakos level 5 hospital, KUPPET Machakos branch executive secretary Mr Musembi Katuku revealed that they had signed a MoU with Medical Administrator Kenya Ltd to ensure teachers across Machakos county get good healthcare services.

‘We are proud that we’ve finally achieved what we have been fighting for.  I would like to encourage our members to visit the listed hospitals whenever they feel unwell. We will continue to negotiate for better services for our members,’ Katuku said.

He added that the insurance cover is very important.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr Ancent Kituku.

Dr Kituku said the agreement between the teachers and the health insurer is a form of external quality assurance that the health facilities in Machakos County offer good services.

“This is a good thing. We will also be able to bill the Medical Health Insurer to reimburse us so that we can use the funds to improve our health services,” said Dr Kituku.
