A nine-year-old boy committed suicide in Ekalakala, Masinga Sub-county of Machakos county.
The grade four pupil at Kiangeni Primary School used shoelaces to hang himself at their home.
Ekalakala chief Timothy Kivati Nzioka confirmed the incident, saying the body had been moved to the Mbaku funeral home and that the reason for the decision was unknown.
He said that the boy was playing with other kids outside, and later, his body was found dangling from the rooftop.
He said that the boy’s parents were questioned about the incident.

“We asked them if they had done something to upset the boy or if he was going through something lately that could have pushed him to the decision,” said the chief.
He said that investigations into the incident have commenced.
He urged parents to monitor their children closely and be attentive to any signs that they might be struggling.
“This incident is so troubling and should not happen. Let parents listen to their children and know when they are going through something,” he said.
