Tigania East Member of Parliament (MP) Mpuru Aburi has sparked debate after warning young people against neglecting their mothers, claiming that many life challenges begin when individuals abandon their parents.
The legislator said mistreating mothers often leads to suffering, failure, and endless troubles, warning that success cannot endure for those who forget the women who raised them.
Speaking at Kandebene during the official handover of the Muriri–Isiolo road recarpeting project, Mpuru urged young people expected to benefit from employment opportunities under the project to remain humble and responsible after earning income from the works.
He cautioned that some youth squander their earnings on alcohol and entertainment while their parents continue struggling in villages without support.
Mpuru noted that mothers endure immense pain and hardship while carrying and raising children, yet many children quickly forget those sacrifices once they begin living independently.
He said respect for parents, especially mothers, remains one of the most important values in society and should never be ignored, insisting that the role mothers play in the lives of their children can never be replaced.
“To the young men, the first vehicle that carried you was your mother’s womb. Our mothers carried us for nine months, and we should never forget the sacrifices they made for us,” said Mpuru.

The MP further reminded residents that mothers are the first providers in the lives of children, nurturing and caring for them from infancy until they are able to survive independently.
He said many people celebrate expensive lifestyles and luxury while forgetting that the foundation of their lives was built through the sacrifices of their mothers.
Mpuru challenged young people expected to secure jobs during the road recarpeting project to use their earnings responsibly and support their families instead of spending recklessly.
The legislator expressed concern that some youths spend all their wages on alcohol, entertainment, and lavish lifestyles while their parents continue struggling in villages without proper support.
“When you get paid from this project, do not waste all your money in bars and then return home to insult your mother. That kind of behavior will only bring curses upon you,” warned Mpuru.
In addition, Mpuru lamented what he described as rising cases of disrespect toward parents among young people, saying society is gradually normalizing neglect of the elderly.
He warned that children who insult or mistreat their mothers while enjoying comfort and wealth often face difficulties later in life, insisting that parents deserve dignity and support from their children regardless of their economic status.
Without naming anyone directly, the Tigania East MP also appeared to take a swipe at a prominent Meru politician whom he accused of abandoning his mother.

He claimed that the politician’s troubles began after neglecting his parent, urging young people to learn from such examples and insisting that mistreating parents often leads to regret and prolonged struggles.
“You know about that politician who abandoned his mother. Look at the trouble he is facing simply because he neglected her. That is why every area of his life is literally burning up in flames,” said Mpuru.
The legislator further urged elderly residents whose mothers are still alive to continue caring for them while they still have the opportunity.
He said many people only appreciate their parents after losing them, noting that honoring them brings blessings and stability to families. He maintained that no one can replace the love, sacrifice, and care of a mother.
“If your mother cries because of the pain you caused her, those tears are dangerous. Hurting your mother can mark the beginning of your downfall,” said Mpuru.
