Thousands mourn as retired principal Fredrick Ngumbi laid to rest in Machakos

Kikambuani village in Kangundo Sub-county,Machakos County was yesterday plunged into mourning as thousands gather to bid farewell to the late Fredrick Ngumbi, a renowned educationist and former principal of several schools, including Kavilinguni, Bishop Ndingi, and Matetani high schools.

The solemn burial ceremony was attended by dignitaries, principals, teachers, and former students, who came to pay their last respect to the departed tutor.

In his homily, Reverend Fredrick Gateru described Ngumbi as an ‘educationist par excellence’ and a humble leader who lived a life of purpose and got a chance to give his life to Christ in his last days until he was called to glory ,what a blessings.

“He spent his lifetime helping learners, humanity, and was a role model to many,” Rev. Gateru said.

“Through his profession, he shaped the society by producing eminent personalities who contributed and are still contributing to the socio-economic development of the country and the world at large.” he added.

Ngumbi’s friend and colleague of over 20 years, Peter Muli, fondly remembered him as a loving father and dedicated educator.

“I will cherish the memories I have with Ngumbi. He loved his children and loved them so much. He has lived and accomplished his task,” Muli said.

The late principal’s son, Wilson Kilonzo masyuki, recalled his father’s discipline, uprightness, and passion for education and a go getter and a reader of books and newspapers.

“My father taught at different levels of education. Education was his first love and teaching his ministry. He was disciplined and focused. He used his profession to affect lives positively,” Kilonzo said.

Members of the Board of Universal Traders Sacco, where Ngumbi served as chairman from 2021 to March 2025, described his death as a ‘shock and great loss’ to the organization.

Fredrick Ngumbi has left behind a legacy of excellence in education and service to humanity.
