  • Thika High School has announced an early closure for Grade 10 and Form Three learners ahead of the KSSSA National Term Two Games.
  • The school says the move will allow adequate preparation for the national championships later this month.
  • Parents have been advised to make transport arrangements as learners begin the August holiday on July 21.

Thika High School in Kiambu County has announced an early closure for Grade 10 and Form Three learners to allow preparations for the upcoming Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term Two Games, which the school will host.

In a notice issued to parents and guardians, the school’s Chief Principal said the affected learners will begin their August holiday on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, several days earlier than scheduled.

According to the communication, learners will be released from the school at 7am, with parents advised to make appropriate transport arrangements to ensure their children travel home safely.

The early release is intended to create sufficient time for the school to prepare its facilities for the national championships, which are expected to bring together hundreds of student-athletes, teachers, coaches and officials from across the country.

Thika High School is among the institutions selected to host various events during the KSSSA National Term Two Games, scheduled to take place in Thika later this month.

The competition will feature top-performing schools from regional championships in disciplines including football, volleyball, basketball, rugby, hockey and racquet games.

Parents urged to take note

Education stakeholders have welcomed the school’s decision, noting that hosting a national event of such magnitude requires extensive logistical planning, facility upgrades, accommodation arrangements and security preparations.

Parents have been urged to take note of the revised reporting schedule and ensure learners are picked up promptly or provided with safe means of transport home.
