Students at ELCK Emboasis mixed secondary school students in West Pokot County have gone on rampage leaving a trail of destruction in the school compound.
School Principal, Mr John Lukuyan said the students went on on the rampage at night around 2330 hrs after the male students numbering 90 who are boarders assembled before they started throwing stones towards dormitories, tuition and administration blocks.
He said police officers were called at night to restore calm. The students did not state their grievances.
“If it was a school issue the girls would also been involved, but why only the male students, they also smashed the window panes and the school bus glass windows,” the principal said..
Confirming the incident, West Pokot County police commander Jackson Tumwet said police officers from Kapenguria police station responded and quickly rushed to the school to restore normalcy.
“Calm has been restored in the school with only 60 female students in the school compound while their male colleagues escaped to unknown places. The value of the damaged property is yet to be established,” he added
Tumwet added that the cause of unrest is yet to be known , adding that there were arrests made. The DCI officers are in the school carrying on investigations.
“The school will be under police guard until when we establish the cause of the strike, I urge schools to exercise calm during this term,” he said.
