At least 63 students spent the night in the cold after a mysterious fire razed their dormitory on Sunday, night at Friends School Kamusinga in Bungoma County.
The fire was reported at round 8pm on Sunday when the students were in class during evening studies.
No injuries were reported but no property was salvaged as the students watched Jamhuri dormitory go up in flames. Efforts by the county fire fighting engines could not succeed as they arrived when the fire had caused massive destruction.
According to the school Principal Alex Maina, the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
“We are yet to establish if it was an electric fault or an arson attack but the investigating officers are on the ground doing their work,” Maina said.
Kamusinga is the latest school to be affected in Bungoma County after a fire gutted down a dormitory at Kapsokwony boys in Mt Elgon Sub County. Kamusinga is one of the best performing national schools and it has produced some of the prominent people in the country including Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa among others
