Student commits suicide in Kakamega County

Grief and sorrow has engulfed Wakhombe village in Navakholo Sub-county, Kakamega County following the mysterious death of a form two boy of Matiha Secondary School.

It is reported that the body of 17-year old Eugine Opuka was found dangling on a rope in his room yesterday at night in what is speculated to be suicide. The incident happened at his father’s homestead.

His parents said they had some time with him when he came home after school where they observed that he was in a jovial mood and did not show any signs of distress.

“My son did not have any problem with us at home and he did not show any signs of distress. We have paid all the school fees and provided for all that is needed at school. I’m wondering why he had to do such a thing,” Doreen Okutoyi the Mother said.

Friends of the deceased expressed shock and surprise saying they had a good time with him at school and he was very jovial. 

The school Deputy Principal Mr. Philis Musungu said the school administration had no problem with the Boy and called upon parents to get time and talk to their children to understand what may be affecting them.
