A sixteen year old girl was today rescued by police and children’s officers from getting married to a 23 year old man in Motemorabu Kuria West Sub-County.

The Standard Seven pupil at Kubwaha Primary School was getting married to Wilson Kirigiti in a church wedding ceremony that was held at the boy’s home presided by bride’s father as the pastor.

Confirming the incident, children’s officer in the sub-county Mr. James Omondi said they were able to stop the ceremony through the help of local authorities.

“We have been liaising with the area MCA, Chief and Assistant Chief after learning about the set marriage that involves a minor. However, the police arrived at the scene and found the bride’s father presiding over the ceremony,” said Omondi.

Parents of both bride and groom alongside the groom were taken to Isebania Police Station and will be arraigned at Kehancha Law Courts.
