St Joseph’s Seminary School Molo, indefinitely closed after fire gutted two dormitories

St Joseph’s Seminary School in Molo, Nakuru County has been indefinitely closed following a fire incident that razed down two dormitories on Saturday, May 30 night.

According to the preliminary reports, the fire broke out as students were preparing to retire to bed. All learners were safely evacuated in time, and no injuries were reported. However, the dormitory block was completely razed, with personal belongings and school property worth millions of shillings lost in the inferno.

Following the horrific incident, the school management announced the closure on Sunday May 31, after police arrested four students who were captured on CCTV cameras entering the dorms through the window.

According to authorities, the for students are believed to have started the fire that destroyed the two dormitories housing 90 learners.

The fire was put off by Firefighters from the Nakuru County Government Fire and Rescue Services who responded to the scene and managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to other school buildings.

The incident has heightened concern across the region, coming just days after a deadly suspected arson fire at Utumishi Girls’ Academy in Gilgil that claimed 16 students’ lives. Survivors from that tragedy are currently receiving treatment at St Joseph’s Mission Hospital.
