Nyamira County is mourning the death of veteran teacher and former Esani Secondary School Principal Mwalimu Benford Omosa.
Omosa, who also taught at Nyambaria Boys High School, is remembered for his dedication to teaching and his lasting contribution to Mathematics education.
During his years in the classroom, Omosa encouraged students to take an active role in solving Mathematics problems instead of relying solely on direct instruction from the teacher.
Colleagues and former students describe him as a consistent and patient teacher who allowed learners to work through problems on their own, only stepping in to offer guidance whenever necessary.
At Nyambaria Boys High School, where he served as a senior teacher, Omosa also became well known for announcing the marks required for students to progress to the next class.
The cutoff, popularly known among students as the “O Constant”, became one of the memorable aspects of his time at the school.
His teaching approach helped many students develop confidence in Mathematics and contributed to changing their perception of the subject, with many coming to appreciate and enjoy the discipline.
News of his death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from colleagues, former students and members of the education fraternity, who have remembered him as a dedicated educator who left a lasting mark on generations of learners.
