The Siaya National Polytechnic fraternity is in mourning following the death of its Deputy Principal in charge of Administration, Planning and Development, Erick Daniel Omondi Mugenya.
In an official communication dated April 14, 2026, Chief Principal Dr Daniel O. Randa announced that Omondi passed away at Avenue Hospital in Kisumu after a short illness.
“It is with deep sadness that I inform the TSNP fraternity of the passing on of Erick Daniel Omondi Mugenya,” said Dr Randa in the statement addressed to staff and students. “Until his demise, he was the Deputy Principal, Administration, Planning and Development. Let us keep his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
The late Mr Omondi was described as a dedicated administrator who played a pivotal role in strengthening institutional planning and overseeing key development projects at the polytechnic. Colleagues eulogised him as a committed leader whose professionalism and calm demeanour earned him respect across departments.
Students and staff gathered within the institution to console one another as news of his passing spread, terming it a great loss to the academic community and the wider Siaya County education sector.

Dr Randa further noted that the institution would stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and provide updates on funeral arrangements once finalised.
“May his soul rest in peace,” the Chief Principal said.
Mr Omondi’s death leaves a leadership gap in the institution’s administrative wing as the polytechnic community reflects on his service and contributions to its growth.
