Sixty three million shillings to pay fees for 4,200 students in 18 registered polytechnics has been released.
Polytechnics, however, face students shortage with only 2,800 students having been enrolled.
County Education and Vocational Training chief officer Joel Barua said Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’s administration has allocated Sh15,000 per student. “We have a deficit of 1,400 students to pursue free professional courses,” he said.
Speaking during the burial of Amagoro Primary School teacher Florence Adude in Amagoro Constituency, he said that the shortfall must be met by March 1 if the recipients are to get technical skills free of charge.
The Members of the County Assembly have also allocated bursaries for students in their respective wards and County Government is clearing the legislation issue before the cash for bursary is released.
