- Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei has met SOT TTI student leaders to discuss challenges affecting learners.
- The talks covered security, staffing, accommodation, disability support, student welfare and the new funding model.
- Sigei also pledged to support the institution as it begins the process of obtaining a charter.
Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei hosted the student council of Sot Technical Training Institute (SOT TTI) at his Kapsio residence on Saturday, where he congratulated them on the institution’s elevation to national polytechnic status.
During the meeting, Sigei and the student leaders discussed a range of issues affecting the institution and its students, including security, staffing, student accommodation and welfare.
They also discussed the Wakili Cup Campus Edition, the welfare of students with disabilities, the establishment of a daycare facility within the institution, the school clinic and legislation surrounding the new funding model.
Sigei said he was committed to working closely with the institution’s administration as it embarks on the process of obtaining a charter following its elevation.
“I committed to working closely with their administration on the charter process and pledged to honour their invitation to the November graduation,” Sigei said.
Senator pledges continued engagement
The senator said he would continue engaging with the institution’s leadership to support efforts aimed at addressing issues affecting students and strengthening the institution as it assumes its new status.
The student council used the meeting to present some of the challenges facing learners and discuss possible interventions with the senator.

The elevation of SOT TTI to national polytechnic status is expected to enhance its capacity to provide technical and vocational training while expanding opportunities for learners in the region.
