Security concerns have been raised around the University of Kabianga following a reported robbery incident involving a female student in a residential plot in the Chepnyogaa area.
The incident is said to have occurred at around midnight when students were attending a semester-opening bash at the university.
According to information shared by students, three men allegedly entered a residential plot and moved from room to room, reportedly checking whether doors were secured.
The suspects are said to have gained access to one room whose door was reportedly not locked from inside. A female student was allegedly inside using her laptop while other residents of the plot were away at the university.
The three men allegedly forced their way into the room and demanded valuables from the student. When she resisted, one of the men reportedly produced a knife and threatened her before demanding that she surrender her laptop.
Fearing for her safety, the student allegedly handed over the laptop, which she is said to have purchased about two weeks before the incident.
Laptop reportedly traced to Bomet
The laptop was reportedly later traced to Bomet University, where another student is said to have claimed that they had purchased it.
However, the individual who allegedly sold the device could not immediately be located, according to the information available.
The incident has renewed concerns over the security of students living in private accommodation surrounding the University of Kabianga.
Students have been urged to exercise caution, particularly at night, while landlords and property managers have also been encouraged to strengthen security measures in residential areas occupied by university students.
The University of Kabianga advises students to avoid risky areas at night, safeguard their personal belongings and immediately report cases of theft or loss to university security officers.
The reported incident also highlights the need for students to promptly report suspected criminal activity to the police and university security authorities to facilitate investigations and recovery of stolen property.
The university has previously worked with security agencies on safety concerns affecting students and surrounding areas.

The University of Kabianga, police and other relevant authorities had not, at the time of publication, issued an official statement confirming the circumstances of the reported robbery.
