Several schools across the country have suspended learning activities ahead of the planned nationwide demonstrations scheduled for today citing the safety of learners and staff.
In notices sent to parents and guardians, school administrations said the decision was reached as a precautionary measure following concerns over possible disruptions during the protests.
One of the schools, identified only as “## School” in a notice circulating online, informed parents that all learners should remain at home on Monday, with normal learning expected to resume on Tuesday, May 19.
The school management stated that the temporary suspension was aimed at safeguarding the well-being of both students and teachers amid uncertainty surrounding the demonstrations.
“Parents and guardians are therefore requested to keep learners at home tomorrow,” part of the notice read.

The move comes as tension builds in several parts of the country ahead of the planned protests, with some institutions and businesses opting to scale down operations to avoid exposing learners and workers to possible insecurity.
Education stakeholders have continued to emphasize the importance of learner safety whenever public demonstrations are expected to affect transport, movement.or normal school operations.
Parents have since been urged to remain alert and follow official communication from schools regarding reopening schedules and any further changes to learning programmes.
