Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to school heads, cautioning them against sending Junior Secondary School (JSS) learners, who have not purchased uniforms, home.

The DP, who was speaking during the opening of an NGCDF-sponsored laboratory at Enoomatasiani JSS in Kajiado North on Wednesday, said that learners joining JSSs should be allowed to join with primary school uniforms as they prepare to acquire new ones.

“If you send a learner home, you will be fired even before they get to their homes. Allow them to wear what they have,” he warned.

Gachagua also directed schools to organize themselves and use available resources, adding that schools should also stop sending students home because they have not procured desks.

The DP further requested MPs to surrender activities such as purchase of books and computers to the ministry, adding that the government had released capitation funds for schools and will ensure that every student accesses education.

The Ministry of Education had issued a similar directive requesting JSS heads to allow students to join the schools without demanding new uniforms.

Several students, mostly 2023 KCPE candidates, are still at home due to lack of school fees. The government released some money for the NGCDF kitty but has not been enough to ensure a 100 percent transition from primary to secondary school.
