The police in Nyamira County are investigating an incident where a first-year student from Maseno University allegedly committed suicide at their home.

According to her father, James Mogaka of Ogango village in Manga Subcounty, their daughter, Doris Gesare,18 years old, took her own life one day after arriving at their home from the University.

He said that their daughter, who was a first-year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business studies, did not show any sign of sadness nor report any discouraging experience when they reported home.

“She had not even narrated to us her first campus life experiences, although she looked jovial and lively the previous evening,” he said.

The father narrated how he and his wife left the compound for farmwork in the morning and left the daughter alone at home, but when they returned, they found her missing in the house and decided to look for her when they saw her hanging from a sisal rope from a tree behind their homes.

They raised an alarm that attracted other villagers, including the area chief and his assistants.

Manga police collected the body and took it to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for a postmortem pending more police investigations and burial plans for the deceased.

The death of a female student from Maseno University comes barely two days after a male student of law from the same University committed suicide by self-poisoning, one day after reporting at their rental home at Menyinkwa town in Kisii County.
