A somber mood has engulfed Kaboson Girls High School in Bomet County after a Form Four student allegedly took her own life.
The body of the 16-year-old student, who reportedly used a necktie to end her life, was found this morning hanging from the roof of a school store.
Confirming the incident, the school’s Principal Irene Munai said the discovery was made by school staff, who immediately alerted the authorities.
“It is a heartbreaking incident for the entire school community. The student’s body was found hanging in the store early this morning,” said Munai.
A note was found beside the body in which the student reportedly cited long-standing differences between her parents as the reason for her tragic decision.
The body was taken to the Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary, as police launched investigations into the incident.

Education stakeholders have since urged parents to resolve family conflicts amicably, warning that domestic disputes can have a devastating impact on the mental and emotional well-being of children.
“This is a painful reminder that family disputes deeply affect children. Parents must find peaceful ways to resolve their differences for the sake of their children’s stability,” said one teacher at the school.
The tragedy comes barely a month after the death of another student, Abigael Chemutai, a KCSE 2025 candidate who succumbed to illness.
Chemutai had earlier complained of a mild headache and was given painkillers, and though her condition initially improved, it later deteriorated. She was rushed to Tenwek Hospital, where she passed away shortly after admission.
The two deaths have left the school community in shock and mourning, with grief and disbelief clouding what was expected to be a busy academic term.
