Magoha to lead Summit aimed at reversing downward trend in education

The outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha will this morning preside an education summit meant to respond to a global crisis in education at Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel.

The Transforming Education Summit (TES) which is part of the preparations for the main event; The Transforming Education Summit (TES) set to be held in September, 2022 in New York under the auspices of the United Nation (UN) General Assembly will be held today August 26, 2022.

The Summit is being convened in response to a global crisis in education – one of equity and inclusion, quality and relevance. It aims to reverse the downward trends that we currently see in education including deepened and exacerbated inequity and cuts to education budgets.

The Summit provides a unique opportunity to elevate education to the top of the global political agenda and to mobilize action, ambition, solidarity and solutions to recover pandemic-related learning losses and sow the seeds to transform education in a rapidly changing world.

Among those who will attend include regional officials of  the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), teachers, officials from civil society organizations on education and parents.
