- President William Ruto is set to officially open the KMTC Nyangweta Campus in South Mugirango, alongside launching key road and market projects.
- MP Sylvanus Osoro has said the campus, road upgrades and modern market stalls will boost medical training access, trade and business growth in the region.
President William Ruto is expected to visit South Mugirango Constituency to unveil and officially open the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nyangweta Campus.
According to South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, who spoke to Education News, the President will also launch other development projects, including the Etago-Nyamaiya and Kiagware-Nyakeyo-Mochengo-Moticho modern roads, as well as the Modern Etago Fresh Open Air Market stalls.
Osoro said the visit is a major boost for the constituency, noting that the KMTC Nyangweta Campus will transform access to medical training for youth from Kisii and Nyamira counties and the larger South Nyanza region. He said the college, which has already admitted its first batch of students, will offer courses in nursing, clinical medicine, community health and health records, and will help address the shortage of health workers in rural facilities.

“The President’s coming is not just ceremonial, it is a confirmation that South Mugirango is on the national development map. This KMTC campus was a dream for many years, and now it is a reality that will create jobs, spur business growth in Nyangweta, and give our children a chance to train near home,” Osoro said.
The MP urged residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome the President and said security and logistical preparations are already underway in collaboration with the county government and national administration officers.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, former Cardinal Otunga High School Chief Principal, now an Education Attaché in China, Albert Ombiro, has asked President Ruto to consider visiting the constituency to help in the facelift of the Mogonga-Etago road, which he said is in a pathetic state. He said the road is a critical link between Bomachoge Borabu and South Mugirango, serving school-going children, farmers and traders, but has remained impassable, especially during rainy seasons. He appealed to the President to prioritise its tarmacking to ease movement and boost trade between the two constituencies.

Ombiro noted that good roads and quality education are inseparable pillars of development, adding that when children can access schools easily, and farmers can access markets, the whole community prospers. He urged leaders from Kisii County to unite and lobby for development collectively instead of engaging in divisive politics that derail progress.
