‘Pool of Death’ awaits girls’ volleyball giants at Rift Valley regional games

Cheptalal Girls supporters celebrate a past victory, reflecting the team's growing stature as one of Rift Valley's emerging volleyball powerhouses.
  • Defending champions Kesogon, Cheptalal, AIC Kosirai and Kapsowar have all been drawn in the same pool.
  • The highly competitive group is expected to produce some of the standout matches of the 2026 Rift Valley regional games.
  • Teams will battle for qualification to the KSSSA National Term Two Games in Kiambu County.

The stage is set for a fierce battle in Pool A of the 2026 Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association Term Two Games, with four of the region’s strongest girls’ volleyball teams drawn together in what promises to be the toughest group of the championship.

The games will be held in Narok County from July 6 to 13, with Pool A already attracting widespread attention after the draw.

The group brings together defending regional champions Kesogon Girls of Trans Nzoia County, last year’s runners-up Cheptalal Girls of Bomet County, 2024 runners-up AIC Kosirai Girls of Nandi County and Kapsowar Girls of Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

From established champions to emerging contenders, the group has all the ingredients of a classic showdown, earning it the tag “Pool of Death.”

Kesogon Girls head into the competition as one of the biggest names in school girls’ volleyball.

The Trans Nzoia-based side announced itself nationally before winning the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national title.

Their blend of tactical discipline, confidence and big-match experience makes them one of the favourites in Narok.

Cheptalal’s rise

Cheptalal Girls have emerged as one of the fastest-rising teams in Rift Valley.

The Bomet-based school heads into the tournament with growing confidence after ending Kaboson Girls’ long-standing dominance in the county.

Their rapid rise has made them one of the most closely watched teams in the region, and the Narok tournament offers another opportunity to prove they belong among the elite.

AIC Kosirai Girls remain one of the most respected names in Rift Valley volleyball.

With a rich history that includes national success and consistent appearances in major school competitions, the Nandi County side brings both experience and pedigree into the tournament.

They remain a team capable of challenging every opponent in the group.

Kapsowar’s consistency

Kapsowar Girls may not always attract the biggest headlines, but they continue to rank among the region’s most disciplined and dependable teams.

Their consistent performances at regional and national level reflect a side built on resilience, technical quality and tactical discipline.

In such a competitive pool, their composure could prove decisive.

What makes Pool A particularly challenging is the absence of a clear underdog.

Every team enters the competition with a realistic chance of progressing, and every match is expected to carry knockout-level intensity.

For Kesogon, the challenge is to defend their regional crown.

For Cheptalal, it is another opportunity to confirm their emergence among the region’s elite.

For AIC Kosirai and Kapsowar, it is a chance to demonstrate that experience and consistency remain invaluable assets.

By the time the group stage concludes in Narok, Pool A is expected to have produced some of the most exciting matches of the entire championship.

One thing is certain: with Kesogon, Cheptalal, AIC Kosirai and Kapsowar sharing the same pool, there will be little margin for error and no easy path to the knockout stage.
