Police in Kakamega have launched investigations to ascertain the cause of a fire at Shanderema Boys Secondary School in Shinyalu, Kakamega County.
A total of 68 students were displaced following the inferno which gutted down a dormitory at 4pm on Monday while classes were in session.
School Principal Simon Wetanga said the fire destroyed students’ bedding, books and personal effects but there were no casualties.
“The boys were in class when the fire broke out and no student was injured. They were however unable to salvage anything from the dormitory,” he said.
The incident comes days after the school made a name during the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) football tournament where they emerged as Regional champions.
They represented the country in the Federation of East African Secondary Sports Associations (FEASSA) games last month in Huye, Rwanda.
