St. Joseph’s Boys players celebrate after defeating Shanderema 5–0 to win the Kakamega Mega Gospel football tournament at Bukhungu Stadium.

It was a perfect script for redemption as national secondary schools’ champions St. Joseph’s Boys High School (JOBO) thrashed Shanderema Boys High School 5-0 in a one-sided final to clinch the Kakamega Mega Gospel Festival football tournament at Bukhungu Stadium.

The emphatic victory marked sweet revenge for JOBO, who had suffered a 2-0 defeat to Shanderema during the group stages earlier in the week. But when it mattered most, the national champions rose to the occasion, delivering a commanding performance that underlined their pedigree and intent ahead of the two-term games.

From the opening whistle, JOBO looked sharp, organised, and hungry. They pressed high, dominated possession and converted their chances with ruthless efficiency. By halftime, they had already taken control of the contest, leaving Shanderema chasing shadows.

The second half saw JOBO shift to another gear, slicing through Shanderema’s defence with pace and precision. The five unanswered goals sent their supporters into celebration mode, as the team showcased why they remain one of the most feared schoolboy sides in the country.

For Shanderema, it was a tough end to an otherwise impressive tournament. They had shown resilience and quality throughout the group stages and semifinals, including their earlier victory over JOBO, but they struggled to contain a rejuvenated and determined opponent in the final.
