Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba has directed all education directors to conduct an audit ensuring that every educational institution in the country possesses a valid land title deed in a bid to protect school grounds from encroachment.

“Where institutions lack titles, we will collaborate with the Ministry of Lands to secure them, safeguarding our educational facilities,” Ogamba stated during the opening of new Junior Secondary School classrooms at Kakamega Primary and Junior Secondary School on Wednesday.

The CS issued a stern warning to individuals encroaching on government lands, asserting, “Those who believe they can unlawfully seize land belonging to educational institutions should vacate promptly. With the support of government resources, we will reclaim these lands.”

Highlighting the government’s commitment to a seamless transition to Grade 9, Ogamba explained the strategy to construct 16,000 classrooms across the nation.

“We have allocated resources directly to schools for local construction, alleviating stress on parents and ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place for effective learning,” he said.

The CS encouraged primary teachers not to underestimate their capabilities, saying, “Once a teacher, always a teacher. We have qualified educators ready to handle Grade 9 students, and we are focusing on retooling more of them.”

Additionally, Ogamba announced plans to employ more teachers, with 46,000 intern teachers set to receive permanent, pensionable positions in January. Another 20,000 science teachers will also be hired, ensuring adequate staffing in schools.

Expressing gratitude towards the government’s multi-agency team, he praised their commitment to timely project completion at Kakamega Junior Secondary School.

“It is inspiring to see funds allocated for projects like this one being utilized effectively and accounted for. A dedicated team like this is invaluable for our schools,” he concluded.
