Tension gripped Kyelendu Primary School in the Kangundo Sub-county of Machakos County yesterday after angry parents closed the institution and withdrew their children, accusing the head teacher of mismanaging funds.

Speaking to the media, the parents alleged that the school head, identified as Madam Rose Ayieko, has been misappropriating school funds and displaying blatant disrespect towards them, actions they say have led to a decline in academic performance.

The parents further claimed that madam Ayieko had been demanding Sh2,000 from each parent for tuition, a fee they say was neither agreed upon nor officially communicated.

Some of them also claimed that the headteacher makes decisions without involving them.

“We need sanity in our school for it to perform,” said one parent. “This teacher has been disrespectful for too long. Unless she is transferred, we don’t think we’ll be taking our children back.”

The parents vowed not to return their children to school until education officials from the area addressed their concerns.

The media attempted to find the school head for a comment, but she was unavailable by phone, and her office remained locked.
