AIC Lomut Mixed Day Secondary School is counting its blessings after one of its buses was involved in a road accident in Baringo County while transporting students and teachers home from an educational tour.

The accident occurred along the Kabarnet–Cheploch Bridge road, a stretch known for its sharp bends and steep terrain.

The bus was carrying learners and members of staff when it was involved in the crash, leaving several occupants injured.

Emergency responders, police officers and members of the public quickly rushed to the scene to rescue those trapped inside the vehicle before transporting the injured to Baringo County Referral Hospital for treatment.

Despite the severity of the accident, no fatalities were reported.

All students, teachers and support staff on board survived the crash, bringing relief to parents, the school community and residents of Lomut.

The learners had been travelling home from an educational tour, one of the programmes designed to complement classroom learning by exposing students to practical experiences beyond school.

The accident has once again renewed concerns over the safety of the Kabarnet–Cheploch Bridge road, which has long been regarded as one of Baringo County’s most dangerous routes because of its sharp corners and challenging terrain.

Road safety experts have consistently urged motorists to exercise caution while navigating the stretch.

Investigations underway

Police have launched investigations to establish the cause of the accident.

The inquiry is expected to examine the condition of the vehicle, the state of the road and any other factors that may have contributed to the crash.
