Over 2,000 gardauands from 26 vocational training centers in Kisumu County have been awarded with various certificates.
The graduands were awarded certificates and artisan certificates during a ceremony attended by Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Owili.
Owili said that the county government has so far set aside Sh206 million for capitation within the VTC sector.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony at the Kisumu Rotary VTC Owili said that the county government has so far spent a total of Sh205 million in terms of bursaries across the area.
Owili said that they have so far sponsored some 70 students at the Kenya Marine training school.
He said two students have been identified in each of the 35 wards in Kisumu County.
Owili said that the region had only 20 VTC but the number has gone to 26 due to efforts by Governor Anyang Nyong’o.
He called on Kisumu residents to take VTC courses seriously, noting that it is the way to go.
Owili said courses in plumbing were lucrative and encouraged youths to go for the same.
