Orphans from various children’s homes were among the mourners who camped at Nyamakoroto village in Nyamira County to mourn the slain couple who were found dead in their palatial home yesterday.

The bodies of the USA based Kenyans Edward Morema Nyang’echi and his wife Grace 63 and 60 respectively, were found lying within their compound on Tuesday.

“They paid school fees for my three children until they completed their secondary school course and built a hut for my son,” said one widow from the area.

According to the villagers, the couple had visited Kenya for a holiday break from their business in the USA not knowing that they could meet their painful fate.

Morema’s mutilated body with deep cuts on the neck was found lying in their homestead garage while his still wife’s body lay in their bedroom.

The police moved the bodies to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for post mortem and further investigation.

The police detectives revealed that the bodies’ mouths were covered with cloths and their hands tied with binding wire.

“It seems that they were tortured before being killed,” said one of the security officers.

Nyamira North Sub-county Deputy Commander Robert Ndambiri confirmed the deaths but he could not immediately establish the motive behind the murder.

“We have not established the motive behind the killing but we are not going to leave any stone unturned on this matter,” he promised.

The officer as appealed to anybody with information about the death to volunteer it to help the police with investigation.

The bizarre deaths come barely three months after the murder of a primary school head teacher in the county.

Nyamira Police confirmed that Ezekiel Getangwa’s mysteriously mutilated body was found hidden under the carpet in his private lover’s house.
