A Bomet University student has staged a tree-hugging challenge at Bomet Green Stadium to draw attention to his struggles in raising school fees and accommodation expenses.
Benard Kipkemoi Kirui, a Bachelor of Education Arts student specialising in Guidance and Counselling, is appealing to leaders and well-wishers to help him complete his studies.
Kirui, a resident of Kimulot Ward in Konoin Sub-County, Bomet County, says financial difficulties forced him to defer his studies in 2024.
He has since resumed his quest to complete his degree but says lack of funds for tuition and accommodation continues to stand in his way.
Student turns to tree-hugging challenge
In an unusual appeal for assistance, Kirui is currently holding a tree-hugging challenge at Bomet Green Stadium, where he is seeking the intervention of leaders from the county and his home area.
He is calling on Bomet County leaders, the Konoin Member of Parliament and the area Member of the County Assembly, among other well-wishers, to come to his aid so that he can continue with his education.
Kirui said completing his university education remains his priority, despite the financial difficulties he has faced.

His appeal has also sparked calls for leaders and members of the public to support students facing financial hardships that threaten to interrupt their education.
