Parents of St. Teresa’s Omonono Secondary School in Borabu Constituency, Nyamira County, have appealed to the local National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office to support the construction of a library, science laboratory, and dormitories to improve the learning environment and boost academic performance.
Led by the school’s Board of Management Chairman, John Kineni, the parents said the institution had long been neglected in terms of infrastructure development.
They urged both the NG-CDF and the Ministry of Education to intervene and help address the shortage of essential facilities, which they said was hindering effective learning and negatively affecting student performance.
The parents emphasized that a modern science laboratory is vital for quality education, particularly in science subjects. A well-equipped laboratory provides students with hands-on experience through practical experiments, helping them better understand concepts in physics, chemistry, and biology. Such exposure also nurtures analytical and problem-solving skills that cannot be achieved through classroom theory alone.

They noted that practical learning prepares students for national examinations, which increasingly assess practical competencies, while also aligning learners with the demands of technical training and university education.
Without adequate laboratory facilities, they warned, students risk falling behind their peers in better-equipped schools, limiting their opportunities in STEM-related careers.
Meanwhile, the school’s new principal, Evans Nyaboga, expressed optimism about the institution’s future during his introductory address to teachers and students. He pledged to steer the school toward academic excellence, drawing on his leadership experience from previously headed institutions.
Nyaboga encouraged a culture of self-commitment, teamwork, and faith, as the school renewed its target of attaining a mean score of 7.5 and above in national examinations.
