Students at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kangundo Campus in Machakos County have raised concerns over a spate of alleged night robberies and are calling for urgent measures to improve security around the institution.
The students say inadequate street lighting in the areas around the campus has left them vulnerable to attacks by suspected robbers, particularly when moving about after dark.
They are urging the relevant authorities to install streetlights and strengthen security patrols to protect learners and other residents in the neighbourhood.
They fear continued insecurity could disrupt their routines and affect their concentration on their studies, especially for those who must go out of the campus in the evening. They say better lighting would improve visibility, discourage crime and make it safer to walk to and from their accommodation.
The students also want those responsible for the reported robberies brought to justice, and have called for closer collaboration between the college administration, local authorities and security agencies.
KMTC Kangundo Campus is in Kangundo Constituency, Machakos County, near Kangundo Level 4 Hospital. There was no immediate response from the campus administration or local security authorities on the students' concerns.
