Suspected fraudsters are reportedly targeting candidates preparing for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations by advertising purported examination papers on online platforms at prices running into thousands of shillings.
Some Telegram channels claim to have access to the papers, with one alleged offer putting the price of a complete set at Sh60,000 and individual papers at Sh4,000. The offers have raised concerns about online fraud as candidates and parents prepare for the national examinations.
The claims by the sellers do not in themselves establish that genuine examination papers have been leaked. The advertisements could be intended to defraud unsuspecting candidates and parents looking for an unfair advantage.
Parents and learners have been urged to be cautious when dealing with anyone claiming to possess confidential examination materials, and to avoid sending money on unverified promises. They have also been encouraged to check suspicious claims through official education channels. Learners have been advised to concentrate on revision, use legitimate learning materials and seek guidance from their teachers rather than rely on papers advertised through unverified online groups.
According to the published timetable, the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) are scheduled for October 26 to 30, while the KCSE written examinations will run from November 2 to 20.
As the examination period nears, candidates are under pressure to complete their revision, which makes them vulnerable to people seeking to exploit their anxiety.
