President William Ruto has commissioned a new tuition block at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Iten Campus and promised a 580-bed hostel to address accommodation challenges facing students at the institution.
The President made the pledge on the last day of his three-day development tour of Elgeyo Marakwet County, where he used the tour to highlight his administration's commitment to expanding healthcare services and strengthening medical training.
The new tuition block is expected to support learning at the campus, which trains students for careers in the health sector. The proposed hostel will give trainees more accommodation and ease pressure on existing student housing.
The investment comes as the government seeks to strengthen healthcare delivery, with medical training institutions playing a key role in preparing personnel for facilities across the country.
Ruto also said more than 33 million Kenyans have registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA), pointing to the government's push towards universal health coverage.
He was accompanied by Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen and Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome. Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah and Senate Minority Leader Eddy Okech were also present.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, Senator William Kisang and other county leaders attended the commissioning.
