Teachers in Murang'a County are set to get a dedicated healthcare amenity wing under a partnership between the county government and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
The facility is due to be launched on October 30. The union says it will improve access to medical services for teachers and other patients needing specialised care, and ease the long waiting times in public health facilities.
KUPPET Murang'a branch Executive Secretary Thomas Kimani Waweru announced the planned launch in a circular to members dated October 27. He described the initiative as a major achievement for the union and the county government.

The project follows consultations in April 2026, when the union approached Governor Irungu Kang'ata to discuss making an amenity wing for teachers operational. According to the union, the arrangement is meant to give patients better access to healthcare and reduce delays caused by long queues.

KUPPET commended Kang'ata and the county Department of Health for supporting the initiative, and urged the county administration to keep up its commitment to projects that respond to teachers' needs and improve service delivery.
The announcement did not give the location of the facility, the services it will offer, who will be eligible or how much treatment will cost. The union said the launch would be an opportunity to explain how teachers will access the services and how the facility will operate.
