Youths have been asked to be good ambassadors of peace in the country by coexisting through learning together and participating in sports.
Speaking to residents at Nyamondo Secondary School in Chitago Ward, Etago Sub-county, in his constituency, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro underscored the importance of peace in the smooth development of education and other projects.
Osoro, who is also the National Assembly Majority Whip, said that without peace, no meaningful learning can take place and no development project can be completed on time.
"Peace is the foundation of everything. When there is peace in our schools, our children concentrate in class, teachers stay in school, and parents are free to support education. Where there is chaos and violence, schools are closed, property is destroyed, and our children's future is destroyed," he said.

The MP noted that peace leads directly to progress in education because peaceful schools record better academic performance, learners have ample time to study, teachers are motivated to stay, and the government can invest confidently in classrooms, laboratories and libraries without fear of vandalism.

MP calls for peaceful coexistence along Kisii-Narok border

He appealed to neighbouring communities from Keiyan Division in Trans Mara West Sub-county to bring their children to Nyamondo Secondary School and avoid sending them to faraway schools because of border and ethnic divisions.

"We are one people with the name Kenyans. Let us break these boundary barriers that hinder development. Let our sons and daughters learn together and even marry one another for a consolidated country," he said.

The MP condemned the frequent retaliatory cattle raids in the border region and asked elders and security organs to embrace mediation between the Maa and Kisii communities to discard the retrogressive tradition and embrace modern ways of living, including prioritising local student exchange programmes.

"We cannot continue losing lives and livestock while our children miss school. Let elders sit down, let security agencies facilitate dialogue. Our children should exchange schools, not cattle raids," he added.

Osoro commissions Sh20 million school facilities
During the well-attended programme, Osoro commissioned a modern two-storey administration block and classrooms worth Sh20 million, funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

He said the classrooms would provide additional space to decongest learning areas after he purchased a 60-seater bus for the school to facilitate learning outside the classroom through academic trips and sports activities.

Osoro, who was accompanied by his NG-CDF team, promised to extend the tarmac road from Etago through Ekona and Omogenda to Nyamondo Secondary School to make it easily accessible to teachers, learners and the public.

"The road will open up this area, reduce lateness among teachers and allow quick access for school supplies and during emergencies," he said.
The school principal thanked the MP for the support and said the new facilities would improve enrolment, which has been affected by border tensions.

The day ended with a peace football match between Nyamondo Secondary School and a combined team from Keiyan Division, during which the MP donated uniforms and balls.
