Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu has handed over a title deed for an additional 3.5 acres of land to Kikuyian Comprehensive School, in a move aimed at easing congestion and creating room for future infrastructure development.
The acquisition increases the school's land in Keekonyokie Ward, Narok East Sub-County, from two acres to 5.5 acres, providing space to expand facilities and improve learning conditions.
Ntutu handed over the title deed during the commissioning of a new kitchen and dining hall built through the Ewangan Child Development Programme in partnership with ChildFund. He said securing the school's land ownership would enable the institution to plan long-term development projects while creating more opportunities for learners to participate in co-curricular activities.
"With guaranteed security of tenure, the school is now better placed to prioritise infrastructure development initiatives while enhancing co-curricular activities to nurture learners' talents," the governor said.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/governor-ntutu-hands-over-title-deed-for-3-5-acres-to-kikuyian-comprehensive-school)
The school has an enrolment of 347 learners who stand to benefit from the expanded grounds and planned infrastructure improvements. The county government will also deploy machinery to level the school grounds, providing learners with a more suitable playground for sports and other outdoor activities. The intervention is expected to complement the newly commissioned kitchen and dining hall, which will improve facilities for preparing and serving meals to learners.
Adequate land remains important for schools seeking to expand classrooms, improve sanitation facilities, establish recreational spaces and accommodate growing enrolment, and the additional acreage gives Kikuyian Comprehensive School room to plan such developments as resources become available.
The commissioning brought together local leaders and education officials, including Keekonyokie Ward MCA Lemiso Kimiti, Anti-FGM Chairperson Ipato Surum, County Chief Officer for Education Simon Kuraru and ChildFund Programme and Sponsorship Director Eric Oyoo.
The county government said the land acquisition and planned levelling of the school grounds were part of efforts to improve the learning environment and support the holistic development of learners.
