Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has provided an update on the administration of the 2026 national examinations and assessments as the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination enters its second day of compulsory papers.

This year's KCSE examinations involve 1,048,355 candidates across 10,693 examination centres.

In a press statement released on Monday, November 2, 2026, Ogamba said the administration of this year's national examinations and assessments commenced on October 19 and had been largely seamless.

He noted that the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) concluded on Wednesday, October 28, while the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) concluded on Friday, October 30.

"Today marks the start of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination for compulsory, large candidature papers. The past two weeks were used to administer examinations in elective subjects with a small candidature, such as foreign languages, music and technical subjects," the CS said.

Ogamba said the Ministry of Education was prepared to take the necessary measures to address any emerging challenges affecting the examination process.

Examination centres relocated over insecurity

He disclosed that the ministry had relocated two examination centres in Moyale Sub-County, Marsabit County, following insecurity occasioned by clan clashes along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.

He added that special arrangements had been made to deliver and administer examinations to seven hospitalised candidates and five candidates in correctional facilities.

The Cabinet Secretary commended candidates, contracted examination personnel and members of the public for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth administration of examinations.

He called for continued support, particularly in reporting suspected examination fraud and malpractice.

"Let us work together to ensure that the results of the examinations and assessments reflect the honest work of our learners," he said.
