The Bomet County Government has inducted more than 250 newly recruited Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers as part of efforts to strengthen the delivery of early learning services across the county.
The induction, organised by the Department of Education, Youth, Sports and Vocational Training, prepared the teachers for their responsibilities in the public service and equipped them with skills for handling young learners.
The recruits were trained on public service regulations, professional conduct, ethics, retirement benefits and pension schemes. Other topics covered during the seminar included child care, nutrition, child protection and the responsibilities of teachers in creating safe and supportive learning environments.
Deputy Governor Shadrach Rotich, who presided over the induction, urged the teachers to demonstrate commitment, integrity and selflessness in discharging their duties. He told them early childhood education plays a significant role in shaping children's academic and social development.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/bomet-inducts-over-250-newly-recruited-ecde-teachers-ahead-of-posting-to-centres)
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Bomet Executive Secretary Desmond Langat commended the county administration for its continued engagement with ECDE teachers and efforts to address issues affecting their welfare. He said the county had shown willingness to listen to teachers' concerns and work towards improving their working conditions.
The seminar also brought together representatives from the County Public Service Board, CPF, the County Secretary's office and teachers' unions, who addressed the recruits on employment, staff welfare and public service obligations.
Others present included County Executive Committee Member for Education Patrick Maritim, Chief Officer John Keter and departmental directors.
The recruitment and induction programme is part of the county government's efforts to strengthen staffing in ECDE centres and ensure young learners are taught by qualified and professionally prepared teachers.
