New champs showcase prowess in Nyanza regional games

Nyanza Region Secondary School Games, that witnessed new champions emerge as the old ones struggled to maintain their glory, ended well at Kisii National School.

Miranga Girls’ School are now the new handball champions after drowning St. Albert Ulanda from Migori County at 26-23.
Ulanda lost the championship after beating the defending Champions Kakrao Girls from their home Migori County at 20-19 in the semi finals.
Orero Boys’School (HomaBay) did not measure up to expectations to snatch the coveted trophy from Manyatta school who defended their championship with the lion’s bravery at 24-16.
During the hotly contest hockey tussle, Nduru Boys’ School (Kisii) lost to Maseno National School, who seized the opportunity and stood to regain their traditional glory to be crowned the champions at 1-O.
Nduru Boys’ head Coach Brian Masore accepted the defeat saying that it was a fair match but promised victory in the next season.
“We have lost to our rivals but this does not mean that we are not the best, wait for us in style next year,” he said.
Kisii National School wiped the tears of the hosting county by beating Maseno School at 10-8 during a controversial rugby 15 sides.
In the hotly contested duel, Maseno School walked out of the pitch in protest, four minutes before the end of the match as they claimed hostile environment from the fans.
After consultations, the officials declared Kisii School the winner.
Kisii School head Coach Aston Lee expressed optimism of capturing the National championship to be held at Kabsapet High School in Uashin Gisu County on April 30.
In the boys’ basketball category, Onjiko High School from Kisumu County retained their Championship title when they trimmed Agoro Sare (HomaBay) tobtheir size at 84-62.
Agenga Girls School (Migori) were shown the door leading to their home when Nyamira Girls (Siaya) defended the championship at 1-O to walk with their heads and shoulders high.
Ototo School whipped Barchando at 47-34 in the basketall tag of war.
According to Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Sports Association Technical Bench Co-ordinator Maurice Omolo,the Summary of the final results reflected a spirited competetions:

Girls:Ototo 47 Barchando 34

Boys:Kisii School 10 Maseno School 8.
