Mutarakwa Secondary School in Nakuru county was thrust into the national limelight after producing the national champion in the athletics competitions held in Eldoret.

The student, Raphael Dapash, will represent Kenya in the East Africa Secondary Schools Athletics competition to be held in Rwanda in August this year.

Principal Patrick Wairegi revealed that Dapash emerged the national champion in cross country competitions and 10,000 metre races.

“We have confidence in Dapash and we believe he will emerge the East African Champion after defeating his biggest competitor from Burundi,” said the Principal.

He said the school allows every student to nurture their talents and thanked athletics coach Charles Ngau and game master Charles Ngatia for their contribution towards students’ achievement in athletics.

Wairegi also thanked Nakuru county KESSHA office, TSC and the Ministry of Education for their supporting the students.

On the other hand, Ngatia revealed that Dapash had been emerging victorious from the zonal competitions held at Jomo Kenyatta Boys High School

Dapash started participating in athletics competitions while in primary school. Upon joining high school and under the guidance of the principal, games master and athletics coach, he continued sharpening his skills and getting better at the game.

His role model is Kipchoge Keino.
